Designer's Profile Project - Louise O'Mahony

Another Monday and another Designer's Profile - and the last one for the time being. To conclude the series, after two Italian designers (Caterina Gatta and Quattromani) and a British one (Daniella Christina) here we go with the second one: Louise O'Mahony.

If you are a regular reader of my blog and follow my styling work you already know her and her designs. Every time I had the chance either to write about and review her collections (Bridal Collection 2013 Launch Party/ Brighton Fashion Week 2012) or use her garments (New Vintage Shoot) I've always done it with great pleasure and delight.

I leave you know with the interview and some great pictures of her work.

1) A brief introduction about you, the label, the kind of designs/garments you create, where are you based.

I am Louise O'Mahony, a fashion designer and seamstress. I work under two labels, one is Oh My Honey, where I design and make 1950's inspired dresses, including wedding and bridesmaid dresses. The other is Louise O'Mahony, which is for my more avant garde designs, costume and bespoke bridal wear. I work from my home studio just outside Brighton in Falmer Village.

(I visited her in her home/studio and Falmer Village is a pretty picturesque place with a pond with swan adn ducks and cute country church)

2) What's your typical customer.

For Oh My Honey my typical customer is about 18-40, likes the retro styles, and looking for a dress that will be really fun and elegant to go out in, or as a beautiful day dress, woman that like colour and something that stands out from the crowd. Often they are brides looking for bridesmaid dresses too. For Louise O'Mahony my customers are so varied, it is anything from performers wanting something amazing to wear on stage, burlesque dancers, brides that want something a bit different. Really individual women that want to stand out from the crowd.

3)What's your concept of fashion and what's your relationship with the fashion system (i.e. fashion show, shooting, stylists, press, etc...)

I believe that every woman should feel amazing in what they wear, and I think that clothes are a perfect way to express many things, your mood, personality or the person you want to be perceived as, style, attitude and character can all be expressed in the way you dress yourself.

I love doing fashion shows, especially if I have a new range to reveal, they can be so exciting and it is a great chance for people to see the dresses in action. One of my favourite things to be involved in is styled photo shoots. Because I am so busy with business these days I don't have as much time as I would like to be involved in all of the shoots I get asked to be part of, but they are really fun when I do get the chance, in the last year I have done some shoots in some amazing locations, forests, crumbling mansions, lavender fields and even underwater!

4) Projects for 2013.

I have some really fun photoshoots lined up already, and collaborations with other industry professionals. I have started work on some quirky Alice in Wonderland inspired dresses for a very fun styled shoot coming up and I have also started to design my next haute couture collection for Louise O'Mahony that will be out in May.

You can see and buy designs I have available on my website www.ohmyhoney.co.uk and www.louiseomahony.com, and also when I am exhibiting. I have three wedding fairs lined up this Spring, March 3rd Brighton Dome, March 27th Hove Town Hall, and April 24th Unitarian Church, Brighton.

Ma vi lascio ora con l'intervista ed alcune immagini del suo lavoro

1)Breve introduzione su di te, il tuo marchop, il tipo di abiti che crei e dove lavori.

Mi chiamo Louise O'Mahony, stilista e sarta. Ho due marchi, uno e' Oh My Honey, per cui disegno abiti ispirati agli anni'50, compresi abiti da sposa e abiti per le damigelle. L'altro e' Louise O'Mahony, per cui creo abiti piu' avant garde, costumi e abiti da sposa su misura. Lavoro da casa, nel mio studio a Brighton, a Falmer Village.

N.d.R. Ho visitato la sua casa/studio, ed e' pittoresca, nel piccolissimo villaggio di Falmer, con un immenso laghetto con cigni ed anatre ed una chiesetta di campagna.

2) La tua cliente tipica.

Per Oh My Honey la mia cliente tipica va dai 18 ai 40 anni, ama lo stile retro', ed e' alla ricerca di un abito che sia elegante e divertente per uscire la sera, o per il giorno, un outfit colorato che la distingua dalla massa.

Spesso sono anche spose che hanno bisogno di abiti per le loro damigelle. Per Louise O'Mahony la clientela e' varia, va da performers che vogliono qualcosa di sensazionale per il palco, ballerine di burlesque o spose che vogliono qualcosa di unico.

3) Qual'e la tua idea di moda ed il tu rapporto con il fashion system ( sfiloate, shooting, stylist, stampa, ect...)

Credo che ogni donna dovrebbe sentirsi 'favolosa' in cio' che indossa e gli abiti sono un mezzo perfetto per esprimere molte cose, il tuo umore, la personalita', la persona che vuoi apparire; stile, atteggiamento e personalita' possono essere espressi con cio' che indossi.

Adoro partecipare alle sfilate, in particolar modo se ho una nuova collezione da rivelare, sono delle occasioni eccitanti e il miglior modo per vedere gli abiti 'in azione'. Mi piace anche partecipare ai servizi fotografici. Purtroppo, visto che sono impegnatissima con il mio business non riesco a partecipare molto  in prima persona ma quando ne ho la possibilita' lo faccio. Lo scorso ann ho fatto dei servizi in delle location fantastiche: foreste, case abbandonate, campi di lavanda ed anche sott'acqua!

4) Progetti per il 2013.

Ho in preparazione alcuni shooting e collaborazioni con professionisti del settore. Ho inziato a lavorare su alcuni outfit ispirati ad Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie per uno shooting a breve e a disegnare la prossima collezione di Haute Couture per  Louise O'Mahony che debuttera' a maggio.
