Ehm...Eduardo Paolozzi is not a new talented designer, as you could have guessed by the opening picture but a Scottish artist whose trademark is the art of collage in many forms. Obviously I was at my ease when I saw his collage skills applied to textiles and to the dress above but in general, I really appreciated his whole talent, in the mixing and matching images from different media, creating prints, sculptures, ceramics and textiles.
As with the Lyons Lithographs Exhibition in Eastbourne, my fascination for the Eduardo Paolozzi: Collaging Culture at the Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, is in the mixture of art/design/popular culture that can be found in his work. Particularly us, fashionistas, are quite used to be exposed to different, simultaneous ideas and inspiration being collaged together by designers in their collection and fashion shows, not to mention fashion editorials and fashion films, as well as the ever changing prints of designers like Mary Katrantzou, Michael Van Der Ham or the more obviously pop inspired by House of Holland.
Below some of my favourite pieces in the exhibition.
